At Startup-Time
At startup-time you can change some of the preference-settings of THE BLOCK with this dialog (You will come here if you press the 'Preferences'-button in the main-dialog):
The preferences dialog at startup time
You can enable or disable the sounds (only available with Sys 7.5 or above) and change the icon mode.
If you try to change the >>password<< at Startup time, you will get a dialog, but I think you will never use it, because, as in the main-dialog, everything you enter is wrong!! This is only included for cosmetic reasons, to keep the illusion that a password is really required.
The Setup Application
With THE BLOCK Setup you have access to all preferences of THE BLOCK. You can change more features than at startup time, because here is where the real stuff happens...
THE BLOCK Setup, Main Dialog
With this dialog you have the additional options to change the status of the <SHIFT> key and to turn on a startup-log which will keep track of the times your computer booted, if the access has been denied etc. THE BLOCK-log will appear in your Preferences-folder.
Comments regarding the <SHIFT> key
With THE BLOCK you can disable the <SHIFT> key of your Mac at startup time. This makes it almost impossible to bypass THE BLOCK if you forgot your Password-Key. Also it makes it impossible to disable any conflicting extensions. A good advise is to re-enable the <SHIFT> key if you want to try out new system-extensions. In the case that any conflicts happen, you still have the chance to bypass all...
WARNING I
Please notice, that the <SHIFT> key patch is active immediately after clicking the checkbox in the Setup program. Also if you cancel the setup process, the <SHIFT> key is patched. To remind you about this, everytime you click the checkbox you will get a note telling you the actual state of your <SHIFT> key.
WARNING II
Please also notice, that the <SHIFT> key patch will still be active if you delete THE BLOCK from your Harddisk. If you want to deinstall THE BLOCK from your computer, please make sure that the <SHIFT> key is enabled.
